Transfer Hydrogenation and Deuteration of Buckminsterfullerene C₆₀ by 9,10‐Dihydroanthracene and 9,9′,10,10′[D₄]Dihydroanthracene

An efficient and simple method for the synthesis of two uniform buckminsterfullerene hydrogenation products, C₆₀H₁₈ and C₆₀H₃₆, is offered by the title reaction. The picture on the right shows a probable structure of C₆₀H₃₆ obtained from MM2 calculations. These results are an important step on the way to preparative organic chemistry with C₆₀.
