Abstract

Initiated by metal ions: Intramolecular electron transfer in a donor-acceptor linked system (a ferrocene-naphthoquinone dyad Fc-NQ; see scheme) can be started thermally by adding an appropriate metal ion (Sc³⁺) which can promote thermal electron transfer, which would otherwise be unlikely to occur, to give a radical ion complex (Fc⁺-NQ^·-/Sc³⁺).
