The chapter “The current state of school violence in South Korea” consists of three main sections: (1) Understanding school violence in South Korea, which defines and classifies various types of school violence, analyzes its trends, and examines its characteristics in the South Korean context; (2) Prevention of and countermeasures against violence in schools, detailing the government’s multi-stage response strategy, including early intervention and legal frameworks; and (3) agencies and services against school violence, outlining the roles of different government agencies, such as the Ministry of Education and the Korean National Police Agency, in implementing prevention and intervention programs. This chapter provides an in-depth examination of school violence in South Korea, encompassing definitions, governmental responses, and agency roles. It suggests an integrated system to enhance collaboration among multiple agencies and to develop comprehensive school violence prevention and intervention programs.
