Abstract

The standard model (SM) consists of the confining color gauge theory SU(3) for strong interactions and the spontaneously broken electroweak gauge theory SU(2)_L×U(1)_Y. In this subsection, we introduce the SM, concentrating on the issues relevant for our string orbifold construction.
