Abstract
Single electron transfer mechanism in the Diels-Alder reactions of fullerene with Danishefsky's diene (1) is described. The Diels-Alder reactions proceed by stepwise mechanism via a single electron transfer from 1 to C60 under not only thermal but also photochemical conditions. The observed rate constant agrees well with the predicted rate constant on the basis of the single electron transfer mechanism.
