Abstract
An overview on the fire performance of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) materials and FRP-strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) members is presented. Results from an experimental and numerical research program investigating the behavior of these types of members are briefly reviewed. Data from experimental studies are used to show that the fire behavior of FRP-wrapped concrete columns, using an appropriate fire protection system, is as good as that of unstrengthened RC columns. Preliminary guidelines for fire resistant design of FRP-strengthened systems are provided based on rational consideration of expected loads during fire. Finally, a case study is presented illustrating the application of these preliminary guidelines for achieving the required fire resistance ratings in FRP-strengthened concrete members.
