Abstract

We introduce orbifold geometry. An orbifold is obtained from a manifold by identifying points under a discrete symmetry group. Roughly speaking, this identification is done by cutting the points related by symmetry and gluing the resulting edges. We are familiar with this cutting and gluing when we make a cone from a disc.
