Modelling of retrieval latency for proxy cache simulation

Abstract

A latency model for proxy cache simulation is presented. It classifies the object retrievals into eight classes according to the request and the reply types, then decomposes each class into several time components such as connection time and transfer time. Reasonable retrieval latencies in the simulations for various caching algorithms are obtained.
