Abstract
The formation of interlayer surface modified layered double hydroxides (LDH) with oxane bonds by the condensation of hydroxyl groups of LDHs sheet and ethoxy groups of (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APS) was investigated. The powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of interlayer surface modified LDH in methylene chloride (AL-M) and dodecylsulfate (DS)-intercalated LDHs were also analyzed. Through the spectral simulation, the types of oxane bonds attached on the silane moiety were identified. The results show that due to the absence of interference by DS anions in the AL-M system, most of the ethoxy groups of APS forms oxane bonds with hydroxyl groups.
