Abstract
We have investigated the interlayer exchange coupling in Fe (3.0 nm)/Y (tY nm) multilayers at the range of Y layer thickness (tY) from 0.4 to 4.0nm by a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and a ferromagnetic resonance (FMR). The coupling changes from antiferromagnetic (AFM) to non-coupled state with an increase of tY. The coupling constant (J1) in each AFM coupled Fe/Y multilayer can be evaluated, and the maximum value of J1 is found to be about -0.1 erg/cm2 at tY = 0.8 nm. The AFM state is considered to occur across the pure Y layer and the Fe-Y mixing layer formed at the Fe/Y interface.
