Abstract

This paper presents the impact of HTS cables on the protective relay systems in a practical power transmission system. We particularly review the quenching possibility of 154-kV HTS cables and setting of existing distance relays in Jeju power system. Then, we propose a protection scheme for the first demonstration of the 154-kV HTS cable at Jeju power system in South Korea. The proposed protection scheme is verified by PSCAD/EMTDC simulations.
