Abstract

Twenty two fire tests on HSC columns have been performed recently in the National Fire Laboratory in Ottawa and various parameters have been examined. In the paper these experimental results are compared with numerical simulations performed with the computation code SAFIR developed at the University of Liège in order to examine the significance of some parameters. They are also compared with recommendations of Eurocode 2 - Part 1 -2 where four methods are proposed : two level 1 methods (tabulated data) and two level 2 ( simple calculation methods). From these comparisons it can be seen that the end conditions and detailing are important parameters. Additional research studies are also needed in this field.
