Abstract
The use of luminescence as a sensitive and selective response to molecular recognition is the focus of the present discussion. Calixarene-based ionophores bearing various fluorophores can be used as ion sensors due to binding responses including photo-induced electron transfer (PET), chelation-induced enhanced fluorescence (CHEF), fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), photo-induced charge transfer (PCT) and excimer/exciplex formation.
