Abstract

We have developed an HDTV video decoder prototype. The compressed bit rate is 17.6 Mbps, and the image size is 1408×960. The presented decoder system is based on a coding algorithm similar to MPEG. It consists of discrete cosine transform, variable length coding, and motion compensation. To speed up decoding process, 4-way parallel processing is applied. The design concept and implementation are described. The decoder had been successfully demonstrated during the '93 EXPO in Taejon KOREA.
