Executive compensation in big corporations: Unique features in Korean firms

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

The chapter surveys theoretical and empirical studies on executive compensation in Korea. Firstly, we aim to elucidate significant institutional contexts, including pay disclosure rules and various aspects of corporate governance in Korea. We present and review several stylized facts about top executive pay using pay data from public firms in Korea. Our analysis indicates that current executive pay arrangements in Korea seem more consistent with the rent extraction view.
