Light induced alignment of nematic 4-4′-phentylcyanobiphenyl (5CB) liquid crystal was analyzed. The irradiated 5CB layer model used for analysis was considered to possess C2v symmetry. The average molecular tilt angle was obtained by assuming a δ-function polar distribution and using the measured second harmonic generation ratio equal to 46.
