Abstract

The threshold energy for endohedral He@C60 formation under single collision conditions is shown to depend strongly on the internal energy of the fullerence. Under souce conditions in which defects in the fullerene cage structure may be expected (high fluence laser desorption, highly excited ions) the threshold energy may be as low as 3 eV. Oscillatory structure is observed in the capture cross sections as a function of collision energy.
