Abstract
Input of the digital TV software is a transport stream (TS) in MPEG (Moving Picture Expert Group)-2 format, a standard specification for moving picture compression. We propose a method to thoroughly generate MPEG-2 TS test data, namely, a 'test stream' based on the black-box test concept for digital TV software. We also introduce a tool to automate the test stream generation known as Auto-TEst data generator from Protocol standard (ATEP). This empirical study of the application of an ATEP-derived test stream to an actual digital TV software settop box should benefit digital TV software developers as well as other testers.
