Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze research trends in virtual reality(VR) for students with physical disabilities of school age. Method: A total of 12 experimental studies on the use of VR for students with physical disabilities of school age published over 12 years were selected to analyze the research trends and the characteristics of VR intervention. Results: First, most studies have been conducted in the fields of rehabilitation and medicine. Second, elementary school students were the majority of participants in the literature. Third, as for the research method and design, the majority of the studies employed the single group pretest-posttest research design. Fourth, therapists were the primary individuals who conducted pre and post activities of the VR interventions. Regarding the types of VR, third-person VR was mainly used; commercial programs in addition to accorded wearable and non-wearable devices were mainly used for the VR programs. Fifth, most dependent variables were conducted to improve body functions. Conclusion: Based on these results, discussion and implications for practices and future research were provided.
