Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a social skills teaching program linked to the career and job curriculum for improving the social skills, interpersonal relationships, and employment readiness of high school students with disabilities in a special classroom. Method The participants in this study were 12 high school students with disabilities in a special classroom. The social skills teaching program linked the career and job curriculum consisted of a total of 12 sessions. One group pretest-postest design was used in this study to examine the effectiveness of the program. Results First, the total social skills test scores of students with disabilities significantly improved compared to before participating in the program. Second, the total score of the interpersonal relationship change scale of students with disabilities increased compared to before participating in the program. However, there was no statistically significant difference. Third, the total employment readiness test scores of students with disabilities significantly improved compared to before participating in the program. Conclusion Therefore, it can be confirmed that the social skills teaching program linked with the career and job curriculum had a positive effect on the social skills and employment readiness of high school students with disabilities in special classrooms.
